Abia Government to Conduct Integrity Test on Every Building Above Two Floors

The General Manager of the Umuahia Capital Development Authority (UCDA), Mr Kingsley Agomuo, has announced that the Abia State Government will launch a full investigation into the recent collapse of a three-storey building in Umuahia.

He revealed that the state will also conduct integrity tests on every building above two floors across Abia to ensure public safety.

Agomuo made the announcement on Tuesday at the Government House, Umuahia, during a press briefing following the Executive Council Meeting chaired by Governor Alex Otti.

He stated that the integrity tests are part of efforts to protect lives and prevent future building collapses in the state.

“In addition, every building above two floors is going to be subjected to an integrity test. This is to assure every citizen that the places you are staying, you are fully protected, and such incidents will not reoccur going forward,” Agomuo said.

He emphasized that even existing buildings will undergo testing, while new structures must adhere to all building regulations and standards.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, announced that the Abia State Ministry of Lands and Housing will commence an aerial imagery survey of the state’s 4,795.74 square kilometres, including radar and 2D line mapping of Aba and Umuahia.

The initiative aims to improve the Ministry’s efficiency in service delivery and enhance urban planning efforts.
